This is Terry again. Bernie passed his swallow test today. The found no leakage in the esophagael connections so he can now have liquids. He is in much better humor! Now if the prune juice works, the nurses will be very happy. His doctor seems pleased -- told Bernie his am that he looks like a "normal" man (whatever that means) -- probably "doctor speak." Anyway, he is walking 3 or 4 times a day and standing. He is still getting respiratory treatments, but his chest sounds better. He says many thanks for all the comments. I'm sure he won't remember that I've told him about them all; but he'll read them when he gets home. Thanks for all the kind words and prayers. Please keep them up.

  1. Bernie, Been following your progress from way up here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC. My prayer for you & your family has been that your surgery would go well, you'd have very little pain/discomfort with a speedy recovery. Seems like you're on your way back. Will continue to follow your progress, write every now and then and keep you at the top of my prayer list. Roger D Cranford

  3. Bernie, great news. I remember when I passed my swallow test. That first taste of water was better than anything, it cheered me up and it was great! Keep up the great work! I think about you every day.

  4. As a seamstress, I'm glad to hear the stitches held. All you surgery put together could make a patchwork quilt. Keep chugging the prune juice, you have to keep all the systems working! I didn't know that making Bernie normal was part of the surgery. That doctor is good!!!
