This is Terry again. Bernie is doing well. He still seems to have chest congestion and is having trouble clearning it. He still gets respiratory treatments every 4 hours. He's off the epidural and the oxygen. He still has the morphine pump, but hasn't been in much pain. He walked 3 times yesterday and needs to walk more today. He said the doctor told him his morning, they will do the swallow test tomorrow. They give him something to drink, then do a scan to see if the incision is leaking at all. If it's not leaking, they will start him on liquids by mouth. Fortunately, I have been able to stay at the Lodge so I don't have to stay in Bernie's room. He's getting a bit irritable. Keep the comments coming. I am relaying them to him.

Terry, please tell Bern that one of my favorite phrases during my not nearly as bad ordeal was, "this too shall pass".
ReplyDeleteWALKING??? That sounds wonderful. I have been through 2 cancer operations - colon and lung - and I know that walking is the very best healer. Tell Bernie to keep up the good work. Us pool people are looking forward to his return - the "Cannonball" - and we miss his smile. Thanks for keeping us informed of his progress. Marian Woolsey

We're sending forth the prayers for you both. Thanks for the progress reports. We look forward to reading each of them.

Bernie, Be nice to your Nurses and especially to your wife!! Your cheering section in Sumter is behind you 100%. You are a tough old bird and you've got the spunk to put up a fight.
ReplyDeleteKeep it going. Ralph and Sue

Dear Berni and Teri,
ReplyDeleteHave been away a couple of days but so glad to have such a positive report of Berni's condition when I returned. What a wonderful feeling it must be to have it all in the past tense and now the only thing is to gain strength and heal. It is impossible to get any R & R in the hospital so hope you will be homeward bound soon.
As always, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Grace

ReplyDeleteAll the Best.
