Monday Morning, April 12, 2010
This is Terry again. Bernie was moved to a room yesterday afternoon. He is still congested so they want him to walk and are trying to take him off the epidural that numbs his chest. So far, he isn't in much pain. He complains about being tired because they are always waking him up to take vitals, blood work or respiratory treatments. However, I am glad they seem to be so attentive. His nurse last night increased his respiratory treatments and when I left, the repiratory therapist said she'd check him each hour. They gave him a dirurectic (I think) that drained a liter of fluid. He sounds much better this morning. He said the surgeon was in this morning and said he was doing "awesome." His nurse this morning said most patients who have had his surgery are in ICU for 4 or 5 days. So, it seems he is well ahead of schedule. He is confused by the time and date. It seems to him like a week has past since his surgery. He can receive cards now that he is in a room. It's MUSC Ashley River Tower (Room 4080), 25 Courtenay Drive, Charleston, SC 29425. I gave a different room # to a couple of people, but the TV didn't work in that room so they moved him. Please don't call on his cell as he sleeps at odd times. Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes. I know how much that helps.
