Saturday, April 10, 2010 post surgery

This is Terry. Bernie is in the Intensive Care Unit so they can monitor his vital signs. He is doing very well. He sat in a chair today for several hour and has not had much pain medication today. However, they have an epidural in his back to numb is stomach and back. He has some fluid in his lungs which he is having trouble aspirating. They are giving him nebulizer treatments, a type of back massager to loosen the mucus, and probably some meds to thin the fluids. However, other than his inability to cough as he'd like, he is doing extremely well. He stood up today for a few minutes, but said he was in pain. Bernie talked to both Tana and Scott today via phone. He said he's ready to go home -- it will be a very LONG recovery! If you post comments, I will read them and rely them to Bernie. He will probably be in ICU through the weekend.
