Day 4

Not much has happened since my last blog entry yesterday. We took a walk and had lunch at a small college type deli that had great food. Last night we had dinner here at the Hope house that was brought in by a Budwiser beer distributor - I think. Afterwards, we played Bingo and there were all types of prizes donated by the dinner provider. Most of the hats, etc. had a Bud theme of some type. Terry won a hat and since I didn't win, I was allowed to pick something - a straw hat. It goes with the beard I am starting to grow - Terry hates it but the radiology girls think it makes me look like a Country & Western star. So, it's staying for a while. It will probably fall out nest week!

Still no adverse effect from my treatments. I feel fine.

Yesterday afternoon we had a session on relaxation therapy that was given by a certified hypnotherapist who had a lot of other credentials. Since I did hypnotheraphy in Columbia for weight control (lost 60 lbs--temporarily), I enjoyed the session. Terry and I also had discussions with a Chinese lady who is being treated for pancreatic cancer. She told us about some alternative Chinese medicine and QiGong -- exercises for cancer. I am studying some of the material that she found on the web. She also promised to give me some personal instructrion. It can't hurt and maybe will help.

I continue to enjoy the comments you are posting on this blog, including two I got yesterday from my daughter and Pat Hughes -- yes, Pat I was referring to our classmate, Gary Bronstein. Tana, I tried the hot/cold shower several times and while I can't say I enjoyed it, maybe it will help.

We are going back to Columbiua Friday after the 8 am radiation session. We will return on Sunday since my radiation is at 9 am on Monday morning.

  1. Bernie,

Glad things are going smoothly. Hope it continues to go well. When I had radiation for my prostate cancer, the biggest thing I noticed was needing an afternoon nap - something unusual for me. I won't be able to follow your progress next week so be especially careful, will you. I'm sure that Terry will keep you in line.

    Keep up the good work!

  2. Hey buddy--so glad that things are not that bad. Keep up the good work with pizza eating--maybe you'll be that first person to gain weight with radiation/chemo. Don't pooh-pooh the alternative stuff--and you should let Terry teach you relaxation yoga breathing-Hang in there--love from Marie, Harry & the girls

  10. Bernie, so glad things are going well. Do you have enough good stuff to read? Would you enjoy some issues of Scientific American? I also have a couple great books...you would like, I think, The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo and the followup one The Girl Who Played With Fire, and then the final one will be out in May, called The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest"....a Swedish author; takes place in Sweden. He died recently, but had completed the last book. A beard? Again? Please!!!! Don't!!!! I'm with Terry on this one. I miss you two just knowing you aren't next door....hope I can see you next weekend since you're coming home early on Friday. The energy is just not the same as when you both are here. Love to you from becky, juel, william, and alex.
