I looks like it has been a while since I last updated this blog. I wish I could say that I have been having a lot of fun but this hasn't been the case. I have been having a lot of problems swallowing and keeping any food down. My weight has now dropped to 170 pounds which is about what I weighed in high school. I also continue to have a lot of pain in my back and stomach.
On Friday, Terry and I went back to the hospital in Charleston where my surgeon stretched my esophagus where it is joined to my stomach. He said that the opening in my esophagus was only as big as his little finger and that is what has been causing a lot of my problems. He could only stretch it so far at one time and I have to go back next Friday to repeat the procedure. They do this on an out patient basis but they still gave me a general anesthesia. Hopefully, this will fix the problem and I can get on with the healing process. I have been able to drink and swallow some solids since the procedure on Friday.
As I mentioned in my last blog, I have started doing water aerobics again and that seems to help with the scar tissue in my back and stomach. I also try to swim in my pool on the days that I don't have aerobics.
So that's my update. Not very exciting and I'm sorry I don't have anything cheerful to report. However, Chicky the kitten is still cute and I have a few more flowers in bloom that I will post with this message.
Thanks for all the positive comments--
There you go! Got it stretched that much
ReplyDeletewith hope of more next Friday. You'll
be woofing down a hamburger in no time.
Don't worry too much about your figure.
Just don't let your swim suit fall down
in front of all those pretty ladies, okay?!!
Maybe we'd better get you some suspenders!!
Frank's moving on up to Atria TOMORROW!!!
He's real excited. Let me know when you
want us to go check it out. Oh, I heard
they have ice cream there too.
luv 'n hugs, dotto
Bernie is doing a fine job at aerobics! You can see the smiles coming back more. The guys were hanging out in the corner talking & laughing like many months ago. Lots of weight loss for them all, but jokes & smiles. Maybe it's looking at all those women; I guess they'll never tell!! But it sure is good to have them all back again! Bobbi

ReplyDeleteIt is all good man...you are still here, smelling the flowers. Hang in there. Job said, should we accept the good from God and not adversity?
When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.
I am still working hard for your pension,
Henry Martin
I wish
Bernie- did you get to size 34's yet? I heard of a guy that did the stretch deal 5 times ( little at a time). Good luck....Bob
ReplyDeleteThanks, Henry, Bobbi & Dottie. Bob, I'm down to a 36!
